Clouds Over The Charlestown Breachway by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

There is something about the breachway in Charlestown, Rhode Island that absolutely captivates. Getting there by motor vehicle is a trifle risky (to the undercarriage). Driving on this day, we could not distinguish the speed bumps from the potholes (fortunately there were signs distinguishing the speed bumps; it pays to be informed). Working through the breachway in a boat requires skill on the throttle and the wheel. And the fishing... saltwater angling heaven.

But we describe relatively minor inconveniences. In fact, having the skill to navigate this area might be called a point of pride in overcoming minor obstacles. The views are breathtaking. There is a clear view across Rhode Island Sound. Block Island is in view to the south. Westerly is in sight to the west. Point Judith can be seen to the east.

Here we are in an outbound or ebbing tidal flow. Rain is working its way in but is not here. And in the breaks of the clouds on the edge of the incoming front, spectacularly filtered light from the mid-afternoon sun. This is why this place captivates.
