Morning Moon Waning Crescent by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery
The moon greeted me early this morning. I start every day at about 5:00 AM with my head whirling with the things that I need to do. But first, I take the cutest dog in the world out for a walk. I am an old seaman, so it is my nature to explore the weather and the condition of the sky. Today it was clear with a bit of very light fog.
Then the old seaman yielded to the Physics degree and times of teaching Astronomy and Celestial Navigation. Then, with a bit of a halo, but still clear, was the moon. Quite clear and amazing in its waning crescent state. Shadows of stars in the background. That means that I had to run inside, give the pup his treat (and the cat in-kind), grab a camera, and run back outside. Cradling the camera as I would a sextant, I start snapping.
A satisfying start to the day.
The Waning Crescent on November 9, 2020, has an illumination of 40%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On November 9 the Moon is 23.11 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle
