The moon is fascinating. It is a subject of scientific study, exploration, marking time, contemplation, gazing, and art. What is even more fascinating is that it need not be one of these, but might be all of these to any one person. It is beautiful and sometimes eerie to view. It tells us of our weather and atmosphere as its view is filtered. It helps mark time and even can be used for navigation. But best of all, it illuminates our nights and gives us a chance to wonder and contemplate. Differing views of a single celestial body, Earth's satellite, gives us much to consider.

The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On November 2 the Moon was 16.44 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.
