Sometimes I welcome surprise. Surprises keep me curious. I hesitated in sharing this photo, "Flower At Point Judith", with the world because it surprised me. I wanted to do some research. I wanted to consult my books and sites. Why? Because I have seen this flower in my travels, but not HERE in my home state of Rhode Island. This is a flower that one is more likely to see in the southeast United States. The last time that I saw this was on a trip to Bayou La Batre, AL doing sea trials on a fishing vessel. Yet here it was in my backyard, my playground.

This is an example; a flower in tropical pink and ripe with pollen as we traverse a path to the beach at Point Judith in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Actually a "Swamp Rose Mallow" or "Pink Swamp Hibiscus" (Hibiscus grandiflorus).
