More Than A Lure Found by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

Lures tug at fish, the mind, and the heart. Fishing lures endure in memories if not on the line.

I stumbled on a seaweed entangled lure along the shores of Jamestown. In an instant, I was a carefree youngster again. I was on a boat in the middle of Narragansett Bay, a Sturdee or a succession of various length Hawklines. I was on the neighbor's Mackenzie Cuttyhunk. I was in my own quahog skiff. I was with friends casting into the feeding frenzy on the backside of Nantucket. I was on an eponymously named dock with Larry, Jimmy, and Bruce at the mouth of Warwick Cove. I was catching stripers, blues and flats. I was walking into the store to pick up a popper for the next expedition.

Like this, I have lost more than a few lures. I have caught more than my fair share of fish. And the fond young memories remain ensconced forever.
