Banking Off Of The Northeast Wind. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlBanking Off Of The Northeast Wind Select Image or Title To See In A Larger Format Skipping Over The Ocean Like A Stone Along the shore, there is one sure way to say that a storm is significant. The birds come ashore. At first, the gulls will come to the beach, then the parking lot, and then further inland. Plovers will stay shoreside but not venture as far into the waves where their sustenance lies. When a significant northeaster hits, the gulls and plovers flock together. And on this day, they bank off the northeast wind. They skip over the ocean like a stone. And in this breeze, nobody hears anyone talking.
