They look innocent in the gentle light, don't they? Cormorants. Some say the name with reverence, others with invective. Usually, the difference in expression is between birders and boaters.

Birders love seeing Cormorants. They have a regal look with their uplifted chins. Sometimes they spread their wings like a noble's cape. Their endless fiefdom spread before them in mirrored waters.

Boaters see Cormorants with a less generous view. They see something to fend off with the visage of an owl. They see the source of endless guano on pristine decks.

I tend to walk between the two worlds. I love seeing these creatures as they sit on the rocks. They are wonderful to photograph. But I tend to have a task in fending them off as well.
