Weather At Dawn 20211209 850_3578Weather At Dawn A stern dragger is tracing a line across the horizon as dawn breaks and snow is falling from the clouds between Rhode Island and Vineyard Sounds

Staring at the horizon at dawn, a stern dragger (fishing boat) has its red and white lights visible. "Red over white, fishing at night" per the Rules of the Road. The real rule says "reduced visibility" but it is a nice way to remember the Rules of the Road.

It snowed the previous night and the snow moved offshore. Offshore in this case means that the fishing vessels experienced the snow. That is, they experienced the snow while working offshore. This is something to remember when we cheer at storms moving offshore.

In the distance is the demarcation line between Rhode Island and Vineyard Sounds. And there, beneath the clouds, we find the snow falling, backlit by the rising sun.

These are the scenes before us on the shoreline.
