Mussels Of Ida Lewis by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

Often, one photo inspires another. In the recent past, I posted a photograph underneath the pier at the URI Bay Campus (seen here: Made From RI Gallery | Curiosity And Exploration On The Waterfront by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery).

A friend (and longtime fellow wharf rat - we should create a fraternity of wharf rats) commented on the photo. The thought was that it reminded him of sliding a skiff between the spiles of a particular pier. The purpose was to gather and harvest mussels for clambakes.

It's the kind of thing that people like us will do, climb under a dock to harvest what is there. It's another world and it is wonderful. These are the places that others do not see nor conceive of but are there in plain sight nonetheless.
