“There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it, and fills it with noble inclinations.” ~ Washington Irving

Why are we attracted to the woods? Because they are places of hope. We walk among trees that started as and grew tall and mighty. In the heat, the trees provide cool shade. In the winter snows, they provide cover. In the rain, the trees provide cover.

The trees filter the bright sun as it descends. The shelter allows us to appreciate the nature of the light. The trees likewise filter our thoughts. Through the lens of trees, the glaring brightness of everyday life falls away. As the filtering occurs, rational thought returns and we become more human. We walk in the woods to return to our authentic selves.
