Harvest Moon 2021 by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI GallerySelect Image or Title To See In A Larger Format Harvest Moon or Full Corn Moon? Which is it? In late September 2021, it is both. The nomenclature all centers around the Autumnal Equinox. In ancient times, seasonal change followed the lunar month rather than the solar year. The solar year is the twelve months tracked in our contemporary calendar. Most years, the September Full Moon is the Harvest Moon. This particular name is given to the Full Moon which is closest to the September equinox, which is the start of the fall in astronomy. The astronomical seasons do not match up with the lunar month. Therefore, the month of the Harvest Moon varies. Usually, it occurs in September, but every three years, it is in the month of October. Fun Fact: The point at which a Full Moon occurs can be measured down to a fraction of a second. The time it takes between full moons is known as a Synodic month and is 29.530587981 days long. 20 September 2021 If you enjoyed this post, please consider buying us a coffee to continue the work... © Keith R Wahl, Made From RI/Made From RI Gallery, 2021.
