Sand And Spray In A Southwest Breeze 20210918 850_0882Sand And Spray In A Southwest Breeze A stiff southwest breeze blows sand and spray across East Beach in Charlestown, Rhode Island

Not every day at the beach is cleat and sunny. When the southwest breeze pipes up, the spray whips up off the tops of the waves. When the humidity is high the spray suspends in the air. At this point, the air maintains a salty smell and even a taste.

Lower in the air in this southwest wind mix is light beach sand. The sand gathers around the feet in small clouds. It hangs there in little puffs as one walks.

For one moment, one looks and considers the waves and their sounds in the wind. Henry Beston in living the life of "The Outermost House" comes to mind. "The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach. I have heard them all, and of the three elemental voices that of the ocean is the most awesome, beautiful, and varied."
