Early in the morning at about 0500 EST, the moon is still in the sky. In fact, it is almost halfway through its transit of the sky and moonset will be late in the morning, close to noon. The sky at this hour is clear and the sun has yet to rise.

The last quarter of the lunar cycle comes about a week after the full moon. At this point, the surface of the moon is half-lit. It is also called the third-quarter moon.
