Looking into the fog is what it is to look "through a glass darkly". Nothing is as clear as it seems. The fog obscures the view into the channel beyond. It also obscures the view of what is right next to us. It is like looking into the future or even the past.

In the present, we stand next to wooden fishing vessels. These are boats thought of as something of the past but are still very present. On the pier are pot warp (the line used to buoy lobster traps) and the traps themselves. The paraphernalia reminds us that while mechanical winches pull the traps, it is a manual task.
