Autumn is the fallen leaf. I am actually paraphrasing Hal Borland in saying this. But I find it true. Following on Borland's riff, it is all about seeing things with clarity. As the leaf falls, it follows the clear, running, stream and poses against the rock. Our job is to observe this leaf while it is there. It is not permanent, but it serves to draw our attention to something we would otherwise pass by.

“October is the fallen leaf, but it is also a wider horizon more clearly seen. It is the distant hills once more in sight, and the enduring constellations above them once again.” — Hal Borland
