Taking a Bow 20221106 850_5472Taking a BowA little workboat facing the sun in the west with a high bow and built up forward bulwarks at the dock after most of the other boats have come ashore in Autumn

I have always found that workboats are places where practical innovation occur. There is a place where art and design meet out of necessity and something beautiful happens.

Looking along the docks in Jerusalem, I came across this unique workboat. I admired the design immediately. Part of this is that it is eye-catching with a high bow and a unique shape to the stem.

What this looks like to me is a fiberglass molded hull that someone built up. They did a masterful build. Practical. Thoughtful. Balanced. Purposeful.

The feature that I most admire is how they built bulwarks up on the bow to both raise the windshield and allow for a cuddy cabin. This gives protection from sea conditions and weather. The forward area also allows for storage and accommodation below. This is not form following function but where form is function.
