There is something about the late afternoon light of Autumn that sets its own unique mood. The light is flatter and more somber. This brings a thoughtful calm alongside these characteristics. It gives us pause, giving us a moment to contemplate the world around us.

As this charter fishing boat, "head boat" comes around in the channel to the pier, we notice this quality. The passengers are a little slower than in the summer season. They are more reluctant to disembark with their catch. They look around at their surroundings and take the scenery in.

The gull watches for other vessels with Great Island in the background. The leaves have fallen for the most part. The year's denouement has occurred, and we begin to assess its conclusion. In the meantime, these passengers have yarns to spin and fish tales to tell.
