It is the "blue hour" before sunrise. My habit while shipboard and I on this watch was to finish my primary duties. Once complete, I would pour a cup of coffee and take a few moments to observe this time before sunrise. The air is cleaner and unencumbered in the blue hour. Sounds are more distinct. It is a time shared by few but appreciated by all who experience it. It is a great place to take a few moments to clear and refresh the mind before continuing the watch. And then the day proper begins.
