Of the least elaborate, yet important, lighthouses is Dutch Island. Located in the West Passage of Narragansett Bay, the sturdy structure stands. It has a single red flasher that is a navigational aid between the mouth of the Bay and the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge.

At dawn, there is commercial traffic passing this area. For the most part, these are crew boats servicing power generating windmills off of Block Island. Like most simple structures, its significance far and away exceeds its size.
