Dock walking is something that I have done since I was a boy. Back then, it was because my father was doing his job as a marine surveyor. I would sit and talk with the fishermen as the work happened. I learned all forms of new vocabulary as well as what was going on with the boats.

I am an observer and analytical by personality type. This is most likely why I became a marine surveyor as well as spending time employed in ship engine rooms. Attention to detail is a key native skill in either case.

Walking on docks allowed me to observe something else, the shapes and patterns that form. There is a graceful dance of curved vessel sheers, flaring bows, and rigging above. Add some special light, and it makes for spectacular scenery.
