Action at the tideline often occurs both in slow motion and frenetic activity in the same short time. It is the interesting quality of life at the water's edge.

A wave comes in a slow, rolling fashion. One will see the wave from a fair distance away as it plods to shore. The gentle roller will soon rise as the bottom shoals up, curl and break along the shore.

At the same moment as the wave begins its breaking activity, there is a gull wading. While the wave has taken a while to reach its peak and break, this is not so from the gull's perspective. The seabird leaps into surprised flight, its wings beating the air.

But this activity of wave and gull are all part of why we love life at the water's edge.
