Independent Morning Glow. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlSelect Image or Title to See in a Larger Format - See More Below Morning Glow on the Independent Man Rhode Island State House in Reflection The “Independent Man” was first proposed by the Rhode Island Historical Society in 1895. The statue found its place atop Rhode Island State House. George T. Brewster designed the statue for $3,000 and titled it “Hope”. The Capitol Commissioners declared that the statue symbolizes, authority, dignity, and independence. On a quiet Sunday morning, the sun rises beyond the Rhode Island State House. The light highlights the "Independent Man". A glow forms around the gold statue and reflects on a building across the green.
