Mussel Beach. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlSelect Image or Title to See in a Larger Format - See More Below Mussels are the less featured shells of the beachcomber assemblage. There are so many features on various shells with spirals and various shapes of the clam or quahog. The mussel receives less thought or coverage. But mussels are a bivalve that possesses as great of a variety as the others. Their colors range across a variety of blues and their inner finish is pearly. One might state that their curves add some elegance to their features. The one issue with mussel shells is they are more delicate than their shoreline shell peers. The shells are far thinner and are more likely to succumb to crushing. Waves, footfalls, and other forces will shatter the delicate shells, making them a part of the sand. But all in all, this makes their visage all the more precious.
