Stacked Rocks at Brenton Point. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlStacked Rocks at Brenton Point Select Image or Title to See in a Larger Format A few short years ago, in this very spot at Brenton Point, I taught our sons to skip rocks. Now, like their dad in a sense, they cannot resist the urge when they find that perfect stone. They have to feel the wind and look at the water, then hurl the stone. So, I understand the urge that others have to stack stones at the shore. The challenge presents itself and sometimes the urge is irresistible. Cairns, stacked stones, goes back to ancient times. It may be the urge is antediluvian. Whether this drive is or not, the sight makes for a varied view as we traverse Newport, Rhode Island's rocky shore.
