A Goblet of Sunlight. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlSelect Image or Title to See in a Larger Format - See More Below
Translucent is a quality that lets some light through an object. The object is neither solid nor transparent, but it is in a state between these conditions. And in blossoms cupping the light as in a goblet, it is also a perfect metaphor for the flowers in and of themselves. They are beautiful in their transition; a place between what they were and what they will be. In their previous winter state, these branches were barren. Mere sticks pointing out from the trunk of the tree. Now, in the bright sun, they are blossoming, a loud heralding of a new state in the form of flowers. Strong voices even in a delicate situation against the prevailing winds. Soon, these beautiful petals will fall and yield to green leaves on the trees. And while all these states of being hold their charm, in this case, it is the blossoming flower that cups the light.
