Alongside for Spring Work. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlSelect Image or Title to See in a Larger Format - See More Below
Springtime on the waterfront has a different meaning for boaters. It has an even more intense meaning for those who own and maintain wooden boats. This is a time of preparation. While others are looking for flowers and buds on trees, boaters are seeking to put boats in the water. They have concerns about sanding, scraping, painting, and engine maintenance. Wooden boaters are the more extreme of this crowd as wooden boats are labors of love. There is extra care and extra maintenance that yields great reward. A moist day as pictured is a special problem. The bare wood grain raises with moisture and begs for sandpaper. The sandpaper in turn will fill due to moisture. So, the boat owner finds themselves becoming an authority on color schemes on this day. When not actually doing work on a wooden boat, one is planning the work on a wooden boat. But looking at those classic lines on the boat, it is so worth it.
