Low Tide Great Island Reflections Recently I wrote that "Exploring Makes Us Young". The concept that we should walk around the tide lines and wrack lines of the shore and look at what is there. I would like to expand on that theme. When we find ourselves at the end of a public Right of Way or beach area, we don't stop at the end. We plan the tide and stay below the tide line and look around. This is what we did as kids, but I never stopped. These are the places that are interesting. And yes, it seems a little bit "forbidden" but that is what makes it fun. These are the places where we start understanding what the environment that we live in is all about. What does the tide line look like? What grows there? What is the depth of the water? What effect does the light have on growth in and near the water? Why ask these questions? Because this is not only a pretty place to look at. It's our home. We should understand it. And when we understand the shoreline environment, it becomes all the more beautiful. So, exploring not only keeps us young, it makes us smarter and more appreciative too. Exploring connects us to these places.
