Harbor of Refuge Setting Sun. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlSelect Image or Title to See in a Larger Format Have you ever considered that we have the ability to see rainbows all the time? This is especially true on clear summer days. They are not seen all at the same time, but they are there nonetheless. The sunlight that we see is a type of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sun. Visible sunlight looks white but its composition is of colors of different wavelengths. with violet having the shortest wavelength and red having the longest. We see these at various times as the earth's atmosphere acts as a prism. This all depends on the relative position of the earth to the sun. So earlier on a given evening, we see blues and pinks in Classic Summer Nights. In Harbor or Refuge Sunset, we see the glow of yellow and orange combined with some purples. As this little runabout powerboat sits on its mooring pointing westward later on, we see reds. This is where the sun is at its lowest, but its power dominates the entire scene. And on the shore, we experienced the entirety of the rainbow. This is the enchantment of light on the water.
