Storybook Lighthouse. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlSelect Image or Title to See in a Larger Format - See More Below Bright and Reflective in Snug Harbor Not all lighthouses are on rocky shores. Some stand at the head of small harbors in protected inlets and still aid navigation. One has a storybook appeal in Snug Harbor off Point Judith Pond. The lighthouse itself, while on charts, is a thing of what mariners' term "local knowledge". "Local knowledge" is what few others look for but locals rely upon (with good reason). And in return, this lighthouse becomes part of the local story. This makes this storybook lighthouse such a comforting piece of architecture and lore. It has been the launching point and final destination of fishing adventures. It has seen the frenetic activity of fishing competitions. It is the solitude for many resting on their boats at the end of the day. And it is the backdrop of a distinctive maritime village. And everyone who has encountered this lighthouse has a story to tell.
