The Striped Bass is the state fish of Rhode Island. This example was swimming beneath the water's sun speckled surface in Massachusetts. We found the photographed fish off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. It was chasing schooling choggies near the Oak Bluffs ferry pier.

Striped Bass, "Stripers", are fascinating fish. They tend to spawn and spend the first two years of life in the Chesapeake Bay area of the eastern seaboard of the United States. They will then migrate north and south. They may live up to forty years. Some grow up to five feet in length and range up to eighty pounds. The species name is "Morone saxatilis".
