Castle In the Sand 20220723 850_1539Castle In the Sand At the close of a summer beach day, the remains of a child's architectural imagination and talent remain awaiting the incoming tide to fill a moat. At East Matunuck State Beach, South Kingstown, Rhode Island

There is nothing more indelible in the mind than a sandcastle on the beach in summer. It is a construction of imagination and thought. We can see that it took the better part of a beach day to create. A moat created for defense, a stick for a flag pole, and rocks and shells for adornment. And in the end of the day, the castle remains even if the architect has gone home.

We know that this is a castle in the sand. The tide will rise and that moat will fill. The waves will come and batter the rampart. It is probable that the flagpole will wash out to sea and the rocks and shells disbursed (and repurposed, we hope).

But such imagination and effort are worthy of preservation. So, we took photographs. We do not know if this castle's engineer will see this photo. Their efforts, though unnamed, are documented in this artifact of their work. And their work matters.
