Canoeing is a special form of boating. It is far more intimate with nature and the water. When canoeing, one is closer to the water which gives a different perspective.

When the water is calm, in a canoe, we can explore the water's edge with such a shallow draft. At the banks, we find abundant trees and small bugs flying that are natural bait for fish.

When the water is rough or if in a rushing river, physical challenge becomes the order of the day. Overcoming the elements and testing one's capabilities is within view.

At the end of the adventure, there is a knowledge that we have exerted ourselves. But then the canoe become a symbol of rest. Alongside a dock, pulled up on a lakeside, nestled in the weeds. Rest based in a feeling that is not explainable, but enjoyed, nonetheless.
