Marshall & Bob. Photography and Text by Keith R Wahl"Look over there Bert..." Select Image or Title to See in a Larger Format Two friends were meandering down the beach after a day of fishing. I heard one say, "Look over there Bert." Bert looked over there. Plovers, that generic term for the little birds that run all over the tide line, are a love of mine. I am not a bird watcher in particular but love the shorebirds and seabirds around us. Plovers, to me, are comedic in action, serious in their work, and quirky in their personality. And who fits that combination better than "Bert & I"? For the unfamiliar, "Bert & I" were the stage names given by Marshall Dodge (1935-1982) and Bob Bryan (1931-2018). They had a collection of humor stories telling stories of Maine, "Down East" as well as New England culture. And one could become lost for hours in the dry wit based on serious situation that the two recounted. Seeing these two Plovers on RI's Scarbough Beach in the evening, thoughts form. Recollections come to mind. And in this mind of mine where yarns spin, I thank Marshall and Bob for the memories. And I do believe that they would approve.
