Sighs of the Sturgeon Moon. Photography and Text by Keith R Wahl“It is a beautiful and delightful sight to behold the body of the moon.” – Galileo Galilei Glow of the Full Sturgeon Moon Select Image or Title to See in a Larger Format - See More Below Full Sturgeon Moon Illumination The Full Moon is always a wonder. A Supermoon, when the Moon is closest to the Earth, is more so. These are things that night sky watchers wait for, plan for, and plot the weather for. And whenever a major astronomical event occurs, the weather creates anxiety. This event of the Sturgeon Moon (the name of the Full Moon of August) was no exception. Last night, as I awaited the rise of the Moon, I looked outside and said, "That is a weird sky," with a heavy sigh. I was in a good mood because we had been to a concert of our sons' strings group earlier, the bouncy summer tunes in my mind. So, I waited and monitored. My waiting on the sky paid off, but it was a near thing. I had to wait upon gaps in the fast-moving clouds and timed my shots for the spaces the evening dews and damp. The result was not only the Moon itself but also some mysterious glowing looks in the clouds and trees.
