Finding a Silver Lining

"Every cloud has a silver lining." Or so the saying goes. But one asks what that silver lining is. Sometimes, we ask the question not expecting the answer, but we find it anyway.

And this was the case as we walked along the lake on an "end of summer" evening. We walked and sat on a dock and talked for a while as gray clouds rolled overhead. On occasion some of the late day sun penetrated the clouds and found their shimmer on the lake.

The conversation was about new things and the uncertainty they bring. The apprehension that the unknown brings. The mild anxiety and nervousness in something new.

So, we got up from the dock and continued walking. As we rounded the corner, we saw blue gaps of sky through the clouds above. The sun was shining through, and reflections rebounded off the lake.

And the lesson came forth. "Every cloud has a silver lining." Every unknown or apprehensive situation has hope buried somewhere inside. That hope may not be apparent right now, but it is there.

We continued walking. We had the boldness to ask the question. We sought out answers. And the answers came to us. All in all, it was a good walk.
