Brown Study on a Lazy River. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlThe gift of being still and knowing Select Image or Title to See in a Larger Format A "Brown Study" is an ancient term. It refers to a state of deep contemplation or rumination, a state of reverie, or meditation. A state of abstraction of deep thought. And there is nothing like the easy flow of a lazy river to set a mind to this state. In the case of the photographed scene, the river was more of a wide creek. That is West Canada Creek in Herkimer, New York. The abstract image created as the light passes over the flowing water. The light penetrating in random refraction. Put together, it mesmerizes and frees the mind. The calm washes over thoughts and allows deep thought. It is the gift of being still and knowing.
