Graceful Gull (Not). Photography and Text by Keith R Wahl"I meant to do that!" Select Image or Title to See in a Larger Format By and large, no matter our other thoughts, we can all agree that gulls are graceful birds. Oh, we do not like them when they steal our clamcakes (that's a famous Rhode Island culinary thing) or forage around our beach blankets. We do not like their surreptitious decorating of our cars. But as they swoop overhead and land on the edge of the shore, they are the epitome of grace. Well, they are the epitome of grace until they are not. And when things fail, they fail with a spectacle. In this case, the gull was landing before us and I was focusing on capturing the polished landing. Alas, the grand gesture was not to be. The gull miscalculated and performed a full on faceplant into an incoming wave. And the eye of the gull looked back as if to say, "I meant to do that!"
