Early September exerts its own feeling on the shores of Southern New England. Storms offshore threaten us with big waves as hurricane season is still in progress. There is a kiss of coolness in the air at the beginning and end of the day as the days shorten. Still, the sun lets us know that its fire is still there in its warmth and color.

The gull sitting in the shallows of East Matunuck Beach in Narragansett, RI concurs. As the gull stands in the shallows, a wavelet from a bigger wave approach. The sun is setting, and the air is cooling, but the red light of the setting sun shines through the aqua wave. The color combination highlights the combination of conditions of light and weather. And the fire of September refuses to relent against the coming of Autumn. This is a scene to recall until spring is upon us again.
