Skimming Over the Beach. Photography and Text by Keith R WahlAppreciation of grace Skimming Over the Water's Edge Select Image or Title to See in a Larger Format When the wind pipes up and the waves start rolling in, gulls tend to seek the ground. They will nestle into the sand and their flight path is low along the water's edge. As gulls adjust their flight path, the opportunity to observe them increases. This gull is near the water's edge, making us think of a "Wing In Ground Effect" (WIG) craft. In the air, but near the water. The result is that the wing touches the water and sand ever so slightly. And in so doing, we appreciate the mix of aerobatic and near-aquatic gracefulness at Scarbough State Beach.
