Dawn Approach 20221110 850_5634Dawn ApproachThe epitome of the small all around working boat, prepared for anything, ready to do anything. The echo of the famed naval architect C. Raymond Hunt is in this hull design. The boat, rigged with fenders all around means that it is ready to move or come alongside any vessel. There is a mounted towing post on the centerline in the stern behind the helm. And in the even fish are breaking on the surface, there are fishing poles rigged and ready. This is the best working environment traversing the West Passage of Narragansett Bay at dawn.

This is how early morning commutes should be. On a boat heading for a waterfront work site. People on the waterfront calculate time such that the "waiting is done on the other side." They are always a little bit early, because the weather might interfere with the trip. If you want to see someone who is always on time, go find a ferry captain. They are obsessive about the subject.

But being early has its advantages. When there is time to kill, there is an opportunity to reward yourself with a few relaxing minutes. It is time to breathe and take in the scenery. Then, swing the wheel hard over and set yourself up for work with the right attitude.
