Workboat at Sunrise 2022110 850_5642Workboat at SunriseThe epitome of the small all around working boat, prepared for anything, ready to do anything. The echo of the famed naval architect C. Raymond Hunt is in this hull design. The boat, rigged with fenders all around means that it is ready to move or come alongside any vessel. There is a mounted towing post on the centerline in the stern behind the helm. And in the even fish are breaking on the surface, there are fishing poles rigged and ready. This is the best working environment traversing the West Passage of Narragansett Bay at dawn.

A gentle wake as the operator works among the cormorants and gulls swimming on the surface. This is something about the rugged individual appearing at the helm of this workboat. Like most of his kind, he respects the environment that he is working in. He is deliberately not disturbing it.

The power of the vessel is being held for work, not speed; this power has another purpose. Like the competent helmsman we see here, the strength under his control is gentle. But when the strength is necessary, it will come forth with responsible abundance. This deserves respect.
