After the summer's busy season is over, after the frenetic pace of the tourist season, there is a sigh of calm. It is a time to sit at the breakwater in Galilee and see the Block Island ferries pass.

On this evening, the M/V Carol Jean is easing out. A fishing vessel has passed and is about to exit the Harbor of Refuge. Smaller sport and commercial fishing boats are returning from their day offshore.

Even in the calm, as the sun sets, there is a little concern. As we look out at the outer breakwater wall, we see the crashing of waves. That means that the swells have risen to about six feet. The ride will be a little bumpy as they ease out into the sound. It also looks like the period of the waves is long, so the roll will be gentle.

And we all breath with ease as the sun sets. We have a moment of quiet activity at the shore.
