Gulls Traverse the Foggy Sunrise. Photography & Text by Keith R WahlScience and beauty Gulls Traverse the Foggy Sunrise Fog forms when water vapor in the air condenses into tiny liquid water droplets. This happens when the air temperature cools to its dew point, which is the temperature at which the air can no longer hold all of its water vapor. This is environmental and a bit of chemistry. As the sun rises over Rhode Island Sound off of Point Judith (Narragansett, Rhode Island), it catches this aerosol we call fog. The velocity of light changes as it penetrates the tiny light prisms in the fog and the dispersion creates a colorful effect. This is physics (optics). The gulls fly across the scene to complete the scene. This is biology. Specifically, it is ornithology. Together, it is a wonderful experience.
