Gull In Flight, Dynamic Surf, and a Shell's Destiny. Photography & Text by Keith R WahlThe shore is where life happens. You see the waves change, the shifting sand, the sunshine. You can feel the romance in the air. It's like reading a book that never ends. It was a beautiful day at the beach. The sun was shining, the waves were crashing, and the breeze was refreshing. I looked up and saw a Herring Gull soaring above the water. It had the gray coloring of a yearling. It flew with grace over the surf, gliding and flapping its wings. It seemed to enjoy the freedom of the sky. It was so picturesque as it passed the western gap of the Point Judith Harbor of Refuge.
A clam lies on the sandy shore of East Matunuck State Beach, enjoying the warmth of the sun. It feels a gentle splash of water as a wave rolls over it, then recedes back into the ocean. The clam is happy to be part of this beautiful scene, where the surf and the sand meet in harmony. The wave and the shell on the shore are meant to be together. They have a moment of suspense before they touch it, but that makes it more exciting. It is a love story between the sea and the sand.
