Matunuck's Lonely Tree

Matunuck's Lonely TreeMatunuck's Lonely Tree is a tree with no reason but stands at the edge of what was once farmland and what is still beach during a weather event at sunset. A commenter view this photo simply said, "I see Hope". Being that this photo was taken at the Rhode Island shore, it is fitting to invoke "Hope" (the state motto).

I remember the tree that stood like a guard
With its arms stretched out to embrace the sky
It was a companion to the roses that smiled in the sand
And a storyteller to the sunsets that colored the land

But one day I came and the tree was no more
Washed away by the tears and the breath of the sea
The roses were orphaned and the sunsets were mute
And I felt a void in my heart that nothing could fill

I still have a photo of that tree and its friends
A souvenir of the magic that was there
But I know it's not the same as being there in person
And I wonder if it ever felt my love
