Under Salty's Gaze. Photopoetry by Keith R WahlNo school in Fosta-Glosta this day In Narragansett, where the summer's grand, Beneath Salty's caring and watchful sight, The sun shines down, and the waves roll in, The children play, building castles so high, The dory, a symbol of summers gone by, Bringing hope and safety, it stands with pride, So let us cherish this summer's delight,
For Rhode Islanders of a certain age, Salty Brine was a beloved DJ and announcer. His admonishment to children at the close of the "Salty's Shack" television show was to, "Brush your teeth and say your prayers." In the winter, we awaited his radio announcement that school was closed. Foster-Glocester was always the first to close, and Salty would announce in a distinctive manner, "No school Fosta-Glosta". He resided very close to this beach and the contiguous beach to the west bears his name.
