Pictorialism was an international photographic movement that flourished between 1885 and 1915. Sometimes, Modern Pictorialism appears in the current day. Pictorialists believed that photography could be a fine art, and they used a variety of techniques to create images that were more painterly and evocative than traditional photographs. There are those who would argue that the Pictorialism movement gave birth to today's photographic movements. 

One of the subjects that Pictorialists often photographed is flowers. Flowers are naturally beautiful subjects, and they lend themselves well to the Pictorialist style. Pictorialist photographers often used soft focus, diffused light, and selective focus to create images that were dreamy and atmospheric.
