On the night of September 29, 2023, the last supermoon of the year rose in the sky, accompanied by a weather front that was moving in. Photographer Keith R. Wahl captured this unique sight in his photographs, which are now on display at the Made From RI Gallery.

The Harvest Moon is traditionally the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. It is often called the "harvest moon" because it provided extra light for farmers to harvest their crops. This year's Harvest Moon was also a supermoon, meaning that it was slightly larger and brighter than a typical full moon.

These photographs capture the beauty and drama of the supermoon Harvest Moon as it rises above the clouds. The moon appears larger and brighter than usual, and its light illuminates the clouds in a surreal way.

In one photograph, the moon is partially obscured by a cloud, creating a ghostly effect. In another photograph, the moon is surrounded by wispy clouds, which give it a halo-like appearance.

These photographs are a reminder of the beauty and power of nature. They also capture the sense of awe and wonder that we feel when we witness something truly extraordinary.

A Symbol of Transition

The supermoon Harvest Moon is also a symbol of transition. It marks the end of the summer season and the beginning of the fall season. It is a time to reflect on the harvest that we have gathered and to prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

These photographs capture this sense of transition. The moon is both beautiful and ominous, reminding us that both light and darkness are part of life.
