Travel, I learned long ago, is something where we need to take advantage of moments where we seek out new experiences. We broaden our view and see the culture through eyes other than our own; not our understanding but rather others. This is why we chose to explore the Cherokee nation in North Carolina.

The Cherokee people traditionally lived in a variety of dwellings, including log cabins, chickees, and huts. Log cabins were the most common type of dwelling, and were made from logs that were cut and stacked. The cabins were typically small and simple, with one or two rooms. They were often built in a single day, and could be easily disassembled and moved.

The Cherokee people used a variety of materials to build their log cabins, including oak, chestnut, and pine. The logs were typically notched together at the corners, and held in place with wooden pegs. The roof of the cabin was usually made of bark or thatch, and the walls were chinked with clay or moss.

The Cherokee log cabins were typically located near a river or stream, so that the people would have access to water. They were also often built in clearings in the forest, so that the people would have sunlight and fresh air.

The interior of a Cherokee log cabin was typically furnished with simple furniture, such as beds, tables, and chairs. The people would also use animal skins and blankets to keep warm. They also cooked in them, and stored their food and belongings in them. They also used them as meeting places and places to hold ceremonies.
