Travel means learning. Education gently imposes its hand upon you whether you choose it or not. This is a good thing as perspectives and even opinions change as this scholarship falls upon us. 

This summer, while visiting the Carolinas and Georgia, we spent some time hiking. On this day, it was Chimney Rock State Park in Chimney Rock, North Carolina (photos of Chimney Rock itself will appear soon). It was hiking through the forestry that we learned something about the spirit of this region of North Carolina.

As we descended the mountains, we walked through this verdant area. A canopy protecting us from bright sun with soft, fertile, ground. A refuge of cooler air and water that the Cherokee would have sought. And here we learn first-hand why the Cherokee would consider this ground sacred.
